CELEBRATING THE JOY OF CARING
We all need a little praise to keep us going, whether that’s in our personal life or at work. Recognition from others is validating and a good way to confirm that we are contributing in a significant way. This is particularly valuable input when your job is providing care to others.
Carers have to be well resourced and recognised to offer their energy and positivity to people who need it the most. That’s why the Hertfordshire Care Providers Association (HPCA) started the Good Care Campaign. They devote the month of July to celebrating care work through events and various initiatives.
In 2019, people have been invited to register their Good Care Event with the HPCA so that everyone can see the good work that is performed across the community. These have included BBQs, sales, school visits and tech-focused support events.
With social media, we have the capacity to join our efforts in quick, easy and highly effective ways. Care work needs positive tweets, posts, news stories and other social media to offer a boost to those who put the effort in. This also encourages good relationships between the homecare sector and the public. One negative story tends to drown out the many quiet, positive actions that take place every day across the country. This is because the drama seems more interesting at first. The truth is that the fascinating aspect of care work is the consistency of kindness and the impact that homecare providers offer on a daily basis.
Hearing the stories of those who work in the support sector has the potential to inspire us all to be better friends, family and neighbours. It’s also a great way to raise awareness about the fact that professional, dedicated support is out there for people and families who need it.
With all this positive focus on the industry in the month of July, it’s a great time to spotlight recruitment and training. Patricia White’s supports the Good Care Campaign. We also provide recognition, opportunities and progression for existing and potential staff throughout the year.
