Patricia White’s is delighted to share that Operations Manager Avril Martin has been named a South East finalist in The Home Care Frontline Leader Award at the Great British Care Awards 2026.
The recognition celebrates Avril’s thoughtful leadership and the care she takes to support clients, families and carers. Since joining Patricia White’s in 2017 as a Care Relationship Executive, Avril has progressed to Operations Manager, bringing warmth, sound judgement and close attention to each person’s circumstances.
Compassionate leadership when it matters most
Avril’s nomination describes a particularly difficult moment for one of the carers she supports, who experienced a sudden family bereavement while working in the UK. Avril helped her return home while arranging a suitably trained replacement for a client in a remote location. Care was in place within hours, with no disruption to the client’s support.
It is an example of the balance Avril brings to her role: being there for a colleague facing an intensely personal loss while making sure a client could continue to rely on the care they needed.
That same consideration shapes her everyday work. Avril coaches and mentors colleagues, helping them build confidence and communicate with clients and families with compassion and clarity. She also listens closely to feedback from carers and clients, using it to identify where the service can improve.
Avril has championed changes to the way her team works, including a system that reduces time spent entering and finding information. This gives colleagues more time for the conversations and personal support that matter to the people they work with.

Avril’s nomination notes that she has been mentioned by name in 19 five-star reviews. Across this feedback, clients and families have recognised her professionalism, responsiveness, kindness and dedication.
Reflecting on what motivates her, Avril said:
“With 10 years’ experience in care, my personal loss of grandparents and parents fuels my passion for helping others remain at home with dignity and independence. I lead by inspiring compassionate, person-centred care, empowering carers to make a difference and giving clients and families confidence, reassurance and a better quality of life.”
